Irish Country House
Shankill Castle has been home to Geoffrey and Elizabeth Cope since 1991. It is a very special house, brimming with creative inspiration, culture and heritage. Elizabeth, a painter and Geoffrey, a historian, have hosted many creative people in their home over the last twenty years. They have shared with them their unique and beautiful setting in Ireland’s Ancient East and have dedicated Shankill Castle to the Arts and Culture.
The castle is set in beautiful parkland near Paulstown on the Carlow/Kilkenny border. Visitors are invited to walk in the grounds and gardens, and there are guided tours of the house. The castle interior preserves much of its original character and features a Georgian staircase, Gothic plaster work in the dining room and a charmingly Victorian drawing room. Visitors to the castle can partake in the special events put on by Geoffrey and Elizabeth throughout the year
